The beautiful melody, Simple Gifts, is a collection published in the 1840s by the Shakers, a religious group who settled in the areas New England in Kentucky. The melody Simple Gifts has been used in the composer, Aaron Copland's ballet, Appalachian Spring. Is the theme of simplicity, freedom and humility are appropriate for a ballet, but to celebrate the spirit of our National Day of Thanksgiving.
