The law enforcement "Strange Fruit" in a difficult

On most mornings, like many Americans, drive to work listening to one or more of radio where you hear the latest news, traffic and weather, and hear their favorite music. These programs allow radio comedy and terror support our drive from 9 am to 5 years. And not only Comic Relief, giving us once we begin our day with because they know that the community pulse.

The commercial radio as Houstons KBXX (97.9 the box) and KMJQ (Majic 102.1) or Dallas KKDA (K104) and KBFB (97.9 The Beat) provide the community with useful information, especially during vulnerable moments.

Imagine what happened in Houston, if the radio time provided that no new restaurant and ice flows during Hurricane Ike? Imagine what would have happened if the radio does not stop us information on the 2008 presidential campaign and the polling stations? I imagine he would be able to hear talk about the latest events, community organizations and charity concerts without radio? If you can not imagine that, then you should be very concerned about the threat to access this free information and entertainment known Rights Act enforcement.

Congress John Conyers (D-Michigan) and other members of Congress as Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-Texas) have been associated with the coalition musicFIRST Pass House Resolution 848, the rights of law enforcement. This resolution and its sister in the bill to the Senate (SB 379) would change the sound of radio as we know it.

At the height of the tough economic times and declining sales of the record industry, Human Enforcement was presented by Conyers. Human Rights Act implementation has been designed to ensure that artists are paid for music playback their music, which the adoption of the bill by the local radio stations a fee to air music that the public has been for years.

Currently, copyright law requires that federal charges to the attention of writers and publishers of music, not artists. Act on human performance is to amend federal law to extend payments to copyright for performers. With The Rights of Law Enforcement, the artists should not rely solely on record sales and concerts to earn money.

Sounds like a great idea. But

Record companies are asking Congress to force radio stations to pay them (labels) to help artists promote their music. They lose money because of the digital transfer, because people simply do not have the funds for extras, and because the quality of popular music has declined. In an effort to recover their funds, they work with Conyers, Jackson-Lee and other members Congressional pay radio.

Unlike satellite radio, most radio stations provide news and music for free audience. Commercial radio is funded solely by advertising and businesses in a difficult economic environment is not buying as many ads as they did before. So where is the money going to come and pay the artists?

Company executives fear that Radio would have to lay off employees or increasing advertising rates. Or the fear that the radio can overcome the activity of playing music and only provide radio.

In a press release sent May 13, 2009, Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee said that we should be crusaders for justice .... I co-sponsored HR 848, the 'Performance Rights Act "because I believe in justice, fairness and justice. I have lots of love for my friends who own broadcasting companies, because they are involved in this great radio industry.

However, the law allows our gospel artists, R & B, hip-hop, jazz and other good players to get fair compensation has not changed since 1909. Only Iran, China and North Korea join the United Nations United States of America in the prevention of artists to be compensated.

Therefore, my vote today is to equalize the rights of performers performers as The Four Tops, The Temptations, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Martha Reeves, Harry Belafonte, Herbie Hancock, Archie Bell and the Drells, Kanye West, Beyonce and less known and new artists like him who would be the son or daughter trying to get into the music. People in the music industry have inspired and comforted us. As members of Congress, we must act for help. It is just and fair compensation for artists who have played their music on the radio.

Sac sounds and some people say Congress Rights Act implementation will save money in the pockets of our beloved artists, but after noperformancetax.org website, the Record companies get at least 50% of revenue from a tax on local radio. What the community in return?

Community suffers approval of the rights of law enforcement, because radio will reduce service information and public events like Hip Hop for HIV Houston Hip Hop for Haiti, and take a loved one to the Doctor Day. The community also suffers because radio will not touch the items they know how to make money so they can pay the labels. This is particularly true of African American and Latino markets, which depend both at the community radio news.

Jarvis Johnson, an alderman for the city of Houston and the challenger for the seat of Congress Sheila Jackson Lees said that, of course, put a tax on companies in a recession is bad. To try to generate Revenue from radio stations that offer entertainment and community resources is absurd. When you see the radio stations must pay these entities are charge to artists in Dire Straits. It's like asking the fox guard the chickens. No There is no clear justification.

Minorities and small radio stations play a complex role in the lives of millions of people around Houston and across the country. In times of uncertainty current economic, these stations serve not only as a clearinghouse for millions, but also employ hundreds of people to help build a foundation for artists everywhere. They provide a galvanizing center for minority communities across the country and its impact is felt worldwide. My hope is that elected to protect the voices of these radio stations, not only consider the terms of the law, but the fact that the implementation of bills could on the community. The obligation of every elected official is the people's representative.

Artists must be paid for their work, but they must pay them and their employers or the radio?

Commercial radio is a tool that the record companies use to promote their artists, but if the radio has to pay, can be a free service to promote the music more.

This fruit tastes as strange, because representatives Congress of our communities are working with large companies to forge a community resource by adding fees to a public service. And they use our artists wanted to sell the fruit rotted.

In times of economic difficulty large companies have yet to make your money, so why not charge for services that are normally free. The Performance Rights Act is being financed by record companies so they can make money, as their sales continue to fall.

Follow the money and see where the road ends pressure groups, record companies, parliamentarians, or artists.
